Year 2
Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to year 2, a very important year where we aim to provide children with sound knowledge in Numeracy, Literacy, Science and ICT. We all enjoy our cross-curricular approach to learning through History and Geography where we cover a wide range of topics which intend to excite and grasp the children´s attention.
Find out about Captain James Cook, our famous local explorer. Experience what life would have been like when James Cook was a boy. Learn how he followed his dreams through sheer determination and how he succeeded in discovering distant lands.
Travel back in time to the gruesome years of the Plague and the Great
Fire of London. Empathise with those who survived both historic events through eye-witnesses such as the remarkable Samuel Pepys. Create dramatic art work using bright colours and different mediums to produce effective displays to support poetry, diary entries and descriptive writing. Enjoy taking part in a class performance in front of the whole school where we use drama and role play to act out all the interesting facts we have learned.
Become a ´Super Scientist´
and study the behaviour of mini beasts. Learn about forces by designing the best slide for ´Discovery Dog´. Help ´Naughty Nora´ to sleep by investigating how to make a night light.
Finally ´Seaside Holidays, Past and Present´ is taught where comparisons are made between modern day holidays and the experiences from the 1800´s! We will visit the UK´s first seaside resort, Scarborough and the SeaLife Centre where we will see lots of interesting underwater creatures.
