Reception
Welcome to Reception
The Reception year is an exciting and crucial time in every child´s life. It is their first experince of full time school and as such we work
hard to ensure that it is fun and enjoyable.
Teachers and support staff aim to provide a friendly, stimulating environment where children will feel valued. Learning is achieved through a carefully planned curriculum that takes into account the needs and interests of all children. We also recognise the important role of parents in children´s learning and try to work in partnership with parents.
We aim to teach the children a broad and balanced curriculum through a series of topics linked to children´s first hand experiences. Topics are taught and developed through story, song, dance, art, role-play,
counting, cooking, model making, wood-working, sewing, sand and water play.
The Reception class is situated in the main school building and the children benefit from and enjoy using their own outdoor area. This offers the opportunity to take the curriculum outside, through exploration, investigation, problem solving and a great deal of fun. Our outdoor area includes quality play equipment, a garden area and an undercover area, so that children can still enjoy the benefits of taking their learning outdoors even when it is raining.
The Reception year is part of the Foundation Stage and continues to develop children´s knowledge in the six areas of learning started in Nursery. As part of the Foundation Stage, Reception has close links with our local area. We also work closely with Key Stage One in order to ensure good progression and a smooth transition into the next stage of learning.
